The final make-up episode of 【What's This Gear?】 is finally here T.T
In this episode, we once again invited Coach Lin Yu-Ping from Jiu Diving Club
to share some key tips on choosing a scuba diving wetsuit (Scuba Diving Wetsuits).
Wetsuit Video Breakdown
00
Scuba diving wetsuits can first be categorized by style into one-piece (full suit) and two-piece designs. The biggest difference lies in how easy they are to put on and take off, and how warm they keep you —
because, well, you can't have your cake and eat it too!
01
Next, you can choose thickness based on your personal cold-water tolerance.Wetsuits in 1.5mm, 3mm, 5mm, and 7mm are all available options.
But don't forget one important point: generally speaking, the thicker a neoprene wetsuit is, the more buoyant it becomes.
That means you'll need to carry more weights underwater to achieve neutral buoyancy —
and you can just imagine how painful that walk from the shore to the water is going to be.
02
Every rule has its exception, and this time we want to give a special shout-out toa product highly recommended by Scuba Warehouse Taiwan Flagship Store: the Sharkskin TITANIUM wetsuit.
On top of being windproof on land and offering excellent warmth thanks to its special material,
the real game-changer is that it is actually neutrally buoyant —
which means it reduces the extra weight you'd otherwise need to carry.
And it's exclusively available in full men's and women's sizing only at Scuba Warehouse Taiwan Flagship Store!
(the Editor guarantees this is not a sponsored post — but we actually wear this suit ourselves)
05
If 7mm still isn't enough to keep you warm, then a drysuit is your next option.
Drysuits are commonly used in low water temperatures, ice diving, and similar activities.
Be sure to complete a proper drysuit course before using one!
07
In addition to wetsuits, you can also opt for a hood, vest, or similar accessories to reduce water circulation across the skin's surface and stay warmer.
Just remember: the vest must always be worn inside the wetsuit to be effective!
07
Freediving wetsuits typically have different surface materials and foam compositions —they can tear easily from friction against scuba BCD shoulder straps or back packs,
so they're generally not recommended for scuba activities. Finally, beyond thickness and style being the primary differentiators,
the cut, materials, and any special fabric used in each suit are also major considerations.
On top of that, sizing recommendations vary from brand to brand,
so we strongly recommend trying suits on in person.
(For example, your chubby Editor somehow managed to squeeze into a Sharkskin TITANIUM men's size S!)
A dive shop that carries a wide range of products in full men's and women's sizing is truly your best friend —
and that's why we have to give a big recommendation to our filming venue: Scuba Warehouse Taiwan Flagship Store!!
