I'm 24 years old, a fresh graduate
Like so many young people, I feel a little lost about the future
This is something young people today often find themselves reflecting on.
Faced with a sluggish and uncertain world at large,
and standing right at a critical crossroads in life,
many of us feel powerless.
A lot of young people don't know which way to turn.
After finishing university, some choose to continue on to graduate school —
but that only postpones the moment they have to make real decisions about their lives.
Others choose to go abroad and embark on a Gap Year adventure,
yet after a few years, they still have to come back and face the choices they once tried to avoid.
People often say the ocean is a great teacher.
It's in the ocean that we discover all kinds of truths about life.
Through my journey into freediving,
I found the direction I had been searching for.
As I came to know the ocean, I came to know myself —
understanding the limits of my body and revelling in my own blue world beneath the surface.
I also found a whole community of friends who share a passion for freediving.
We came together through our love of the sea,
with no ulterior motives, no scheming, no scramble for power —
only f r e e d i v i n g
At the same time, I discovered this wonderful little island — Xiaoliuqiu —
and the difficult challenges shared by Taiwan's outlying islands alike:
marine debris, the balance between tourism and ecology.
One person's abilities are limited,
but by starting with ourselves, we can influence those around us
and bring awareness to everything this ocean is facing.
