The Editor says: The 2019 Keelung Chaojing Bay Festival "Tidal Ecology" segment has come to a successful close. Many dedicated contributors submitted their work, leaving behind a precious visual record of this beautiful little bay. We hope this kind of event will continue to be held — only by letting more people witness the bay's transformation can we hope to change more hearts and minds! The Keelung Chaojing Bay Festival Is Here!
Now in its second year, the "Keelung Chaojing Bay Festival" — co-organised by the Keelung City Government and the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology — builds on the momentum of last year's series of events. This year, it presents five higher-quality "Tidal" programmes: "Tidal Ocean," "Tidal Music," "Tidal Food," "Tidal Ecology," and "Tidal Fishing Village," bringing the ocean closer to everyday life.
The first event to kick off this year was the "Tidal Ecology — Underwater Image Documentary Competition and ImageBay Underwater Photography Contest." After two months of submissions and judging, the award ceremony will be held on 1 August 2019 at 2
p.m. in the lobby on the 3rd floor of the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology. The Wanghai Bay Chaojing Marine Resource Conservation Area marks its 3rd anniversary this year. To raise public awareness of connecting with and caring for the ocean, and to promote correct marine conservation concepts, the "Underwater Image Documentary Competition" aims to capture the human and cultural changes in Chaojing Bay before and after the establishment of the conservation area. The "ImageBay Underwater Photography Contest" seeks to document the true face of the marine ecosystem and environment, giving the public an in-depth and wide-ranging look at the ecological diversity of Chaojing Bay.
A combined total of 59 entries were submitted across both competitions, with 15 winning works selected (please refer to the attached list for winners). The winning works will be displayed on the 2nd floor of the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology following the award ceremony, running through 1 September. Visitors are welcome on weekdays from 9
to 17 and on weekends and public holidays from 9 to 18. The winning works can also be viewed online on the official Keelung Chaojing Bay Festival website. To allow even more people to see the marine ecosystems captured in this year's winning entries, the exhibition period has been extended — from 2 September to 2 October, the winning works exhibition will move to the high-traffic Keelung East Wharf Mall, where visitors can enjoy the works in the 2nd-floor gallery. The ocean belongs to everyone. Now in its second year of collaboration, the Keelung City Government and the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology look forward to continuing to give voice to the ocean through these annual competitions, and to igniting a wave of marine conservation awareness.
As the 2019 Keelung Chaojing Bay Festival draws to a close, the final event — "Tidal Fishing Village: Searching for Keelung Fishing Village's Timeless Treasures" — will launch a brand-new set of puzzles in August. Through a story theme that explores past and present, participants will wander through a classic small town and the most vibrant fishing village, savouring the long and storied history of Badouzi! To purchase a puzzle kit and for more event details, please visit the official event website (https://www.chaojingbay.com.tw) or search "基隆潮境海灣節."
