The Keelung Chaojing Bay Festival Is Underway!
Now in its second year, the "Keelung Chaojing Bay Festival," jointly organized by the Keelung City Government and the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology, builds on the enthusiasm of last year's series of events. This year, five signature "Tide" activities of even higher quality have been launched: "Tide Ocean," "Tide Music," "Tide Food," "Tide Ecology," and "Tide Fishing Village," bringing the ocean into the everyday lives of the public.
The first event to kick off this year — "Tide Ecology: Underwater Documentary Submission Competition and ImageBay Underwater Photography Contest" — concluded two months of submissions and judging, with an awards ceremony held at 2:30 p.m. on August 1, 2019, in the 3rd-floor lobby of the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology.
The Wanghaixiang Chaojing Bay Resource Conservation Area marks its 3rd anniversary this year. In order to raise public awareness of the ocean, foster a closer connection to the sea, and promote correct marine conservation values, the "Underwater Documentary Submission Competition" aims to present the human and cultural changes that have taken place before and after the establishment of the conservation area — tracing Chaojing Bay's past and present. Meanwhile, the "ImageBay Underwater Photography Contest" documents the true state of the marine ecosystem and environment, offering the public a deep and wide-ranging look at the ecological diversity of Chaojing Bay.
The underwater documentary competition and the ImageBay underwater photography contest together received 59 entries, with 15 works receiving awards (please refer to the attachment for the list of winners). The award-winning works will be exhibited on the 2nd floor of the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology following the awards ceremony, running through September 1. Visitors are welcome on weekdays from 9:00 to 17:00 and on holidays from 9:00 to 18:00. The winning works can also be viewed online at the official Keelung Chaojing Bay Festival website. To allow even more members of the public to see the marine ecosystems captured in the award-winning works, the exhibition period has been extended this year: from September 2 to October 2, the exhibition will move to the high-traffic Keelung East Shore Mall, where visitors can view the works at the 2nd-floor gallery.
The ocean belongs to everyone. This is the second year the Keelung City Government and the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology have collaborated to host the underwater documentary and ImageBay underwater photography competitions. It is their hope that through annual competitions, the ocean's voice will continue to be amplified, driving a wave of marine conservation.
As the 2019 Keelung Chaojing Bay Festival draws to a close, the final event — "Tide Fishing Village: Finding the Timeless Treasures of Keelung's Fishing Villages" — is set to release an all-new set of mystery puzzles in August. Through a story theme that explores past and present, visitors are invited to wander through a classic small town and the trendiest fishing village, and savor the deep, enduring historical memories of Badouzi!
