The long-awaited MK3 finally made its debut at the end of 2023! On November 24, GARMIN hosted a launch event at Taichung's Qian Li Fang dive facility, inviting a crowd of fellow divers to join in. In addition to the MK3 series, the T2 transmitter and G1 Solar Ocean Edition were also on show. GARMIN engineers were on hand to walk everyone through the new features, and attendees got to jump in the water to experience them firsthand. BlueTrend wouldn't miss a moment like this — let's take a look at all the highlights!
Three Years Later, GARMIN Launches New Products Again
After three years of waiting, BlueTrend finally got to see the MK3! Walking into the venue, we spotted plenty of familiar faces — everyone eager for a first look at the new lineup. Word was that, beyond the MK3 series itself, GARMIN's proprietary SubWave sonar technology has been comprehensively upgraded, allowing dives down to 200 m. Paired with a transmitter, divers can even send messages underwater (this feature is pending a software update). GARMIN's dive computers are squarely aimed at the technical diving market's deep-dive needs, helping divers go deeper while staying safer.

Plenty of familiar faces were on site, all gathered for this exciting product launch.

Every attendee was drawn in by the eye-catching MK3i.
First Ever! GARMIN Takes You Underwater to Experience the New Dive Watches
True to GARMIN's signature style, simply seeing the new products wasn't enough — you had to get hands-on. The in-water experience was split into a freediving group and a scuba diving group, each led by professional instructors. The scuba group actually dove inside a sunken wreck and a cave, simulating low-visibility conditions to make the experience as realistic as possible. Meanwhile, GARMIN engineers were on deck to help with settings and UI questions.

The freediving group strapped on their watches and pushed past their personal bests, one dive at a time.

Before the scuba group entered the water, instructors carefully explained the watch functions and key points to note.

One of BlueTrend's absolute favourite new features has to be the super-convenient LED Torch — just double-press the button and it lights up instantly, making you the brightest star underwater. The organisers even placed an MK3i inside the wreck for the occasion; with the Torch feature active, divers entering the cabin were immediately greeted by the glowing watch, and its power truly spoke for itself.

Even inside the dimly lit wreck, the MK3i's Torch lit up the cabin.

Tech blogger Mona also came to try it out and declared the upgrade absolutely worth it!
Descent T2 Transmitter Paired with a Dive Watch — Safer Diving
The "Descent T2 Transmitter" was another highlight of the launch. Built on GARMIN's proprietary SubWave sonar technology, it uses a more sensitive sonar transceiver module. Within a 10 m range underwater, the watch can connect to up to 8 Descent T2 transmitters simultaneously, enabling real-time monitoring of each dive buddy's pressure gauge (SPG) reading, depth, and distance. During the in-water session, an instructor played a little game and asked BlueTrend to report each buddy's tank pressure — all 8 divers' readings were clearly displayed on the watch. BlueTrend took one look and thought: "I'm done for — I'm burning through air the fastest. Time to start breathing easy!"

The T2 paired with the MK3 puts pressure gauge (SPG) readings and depth at a glance.

Once underwater, every diver can see their buddies' pressure gauge (SPG) readings, depth, and distance.
GARMIN's proprietary SubWave technology has also been comprehensively upgraded. Beyond transmitting tank pressure data, the transmitter can now support two-way text messaging underwater — an innovative feature that means divers no longer need to rely on traditional hand signals or underwater slates to communicate with their dive buddies, making every dive more precise and safe (this feature will be supported via a future software update).
G1 Solar Dive Watch Ocean Edition — Remade from 100% Discarded Fishing Nets
The moment BlueTrend walked into the venue, this watch's adorable colour scheme was an instant head-turner. The newly launched Ocean Edition comes in a fresh cerulean blue — not only charming to look at, but full of deeper meaning. Alongside the original sapphire solar-charging lens, the watch case, bezel, and buttons have all been remade from 100% recycled materials — specifically discarded fishing nets rather than virgin plastic — giving hazardous marine debris a second life as an essential dive watch for ocean lovers.

The all-new cerulean blue suits everyone, regardless of gender.

Even the outer packaging is made from recyclable paper — a plastic-free, eco-friendly box.
A Trip Down Memory Lane — GARMIN's Underwater History Wall
Another particularly special touch: GARMIN set up a dedicated "History Wall" underwater, displaying the G1, MK1, and MK2 series dive watches all together in the pool. While wearing the latest model on your wrist, you could gaze at the watches of eras past and compare how things have changed. BlueTrend couldn't help but feel a little emotional — these are the milestones of a generation!

Lined up underwater, BlueTrend thought it looked absolutely stunning!
