They say this year is a mild winter, but on certain days in December, water temperatures in the mid-twenties up north are still cold enough to make you shiver uncontrollably. And yet I happened to discover mermaiding back in October — still a long way from the warm summer sun. Having finally mastered the mermaid techniques, there was no way I was going to let the weather put them on hold.
December: bitter winter winds, bare wet trees, plummeting temperatures, and indoor pool displays reading barely above 20°C. Just as everything seemed to be sapping my motivation, a voice suddenly drifted over: "You could head to DiveCube and try the 'Professional Mermaid Tail Experience'!"
DiveCube — How Do You Get There?
Inside the DiveCube hotel in Taichung sits a deep pool reaching 21 meters, maintained year-round at a constant 30–32°C — the deeper you go, the warmer it gets. It feels like diving in a hot spring in winter, with bubbles for company and no weather worries whatsoever. For a mermaid heading south to escape the cold, it truly is the most wonderfully welcoming temperature. No more fear of freezing mid-swim and shaking from head to tail~~~
The stepped depth design and float-ball system let you adjust your depth and rest whenever you need. Large windows allow sunlight to stream down into the water, creating that legendary "God rays" effect — divine and breathtaking to photograph or simply gaze up at from below, instantly calming the soul.

*Transport Tips*
Train tickets are hard to book and the connections are inconvenient. The fastest public transport option is to alight at the Unistar Bus Taichung Transfer Station and then take a taxi (about 3 minutes) or walk (about 10 minutes).

Pay very close attention to your drop-off point when buying tickets — don't make the same blunder I did and end up somewhere completely wrong. If it weren't for the driver confirming my stop before departure, I might have had no choice but to wander around the Eslite Ocean section at Taichung's Mitsui Outlet to pass the time.

Through the professional mermaid tail, the program aims to fill participants with positive energy and help them fall in love with a different version of themselves.

Dream of Being a Mermaid with Me and Sing Along to "Under the Sea"!

Approximately 2 hours, not including time to change and shower.
Classes are currently held periodically at Songshan Sports Center in Taipei, DiveCube in Taichung, and various locations in Kenting and across northern, central, and southern Taiwan.

Pricing is divided into a returning-student rate and a new-participant experience rate. Both include rental of a professional mermaid tail, pool entry, use of monofins during the session, as well as beautiful personal photos and video footage from the experience.
*Please bring your own swimsuit, long socks (above the ankle), water, towel, and mask or swim goggles.

Q1: The Magic Tricks of the Mermaid Tail Experience?

A1: Once you slip on the mermaid tail, you'll mysteriously be able to dive deeper and hold your breath longer. A 5-5 body proportion stretches out into a 9-head silhouette. On top of that, water pressure gently compresses everything in all the right places, making your body look leaner and more toned, and immersion in water gives your skin a luminous, hydrated glow. Now I finally understand why instructors say putting on a mermaid tail is addictive and a massive confidence booster — every single shot just looks gorgeous!

Q2: I Want to Try It, But I'm Not Confident About My Body...
A2: Come on! The whole philosophy of the mermaid tail experience is that every person who slips on the fins can leave feeling more confident and rediscover their own unique beauty. And as we said, the monofin has magical powers to flatter all the parts you're shy about. All you have to do is give yourself one chance — every body type has its own beauty, and you might just discover a hidden talent you never knew you had.

Q3: I Can't Swim and Haven't Taken Any Related Courses — Can I Still Join?
A3: Absolutely! Plenty of moms come along for the experience! The initial water instruction takes place at the shallow end where you can stand, so even if you can't swim or have zero experience, there's absolutely nothing to worry about. Instructors adjust the curriculum to each participant's level. You'll start with horizontal swimming drills in the shallow pool, learning a few small moves to use while posing in the shallow area. Participants can also add on a two-hour land-based mermaid stretching session to strengthen their undulation and movement, giving first-timers a truly immersive mermaid experience.
The optional land-based mermaid stretching class opens up muscles you rarely use in everyday life.
Practicing the fluidity of your undulation — so you swim like a real mermaid, not a broken one.
Q4: I've Already Taken Other Courses — How Is the Mermaid Tail Experience Different?
A4: For students who have already completed other courses (M0/M1), the mermaid tail experience reduces the amount of time spent on undulation and stretching instruction, giving students more time to freely explore and get comfortable with the large monofin tail. Of course, instructors will guide and remind students about the safety considerations specific to wearing a mermaid tail, and will assess whether each student is ready to shoot at three meters depth (M1 students may practice static poses at that depth).

Q5: Why Specifically Try a Mermaid Tail Class? Is It Different from the Rubber Fins Used in Regular Mermaid Experiences?
A5: Yes, very different — just as no two pairs of high heels feel the same. The most obvious difference is photo quality: the large monofin mermaid tail comes in vivid colors with a far more flattering, slimming effect, giving you a much more convincingly authentic mermaid look. Beyond that, each tail and fin has a different weight, and tails with a skin panel provide greater resistance, making it easier to assess the fluidity of your own movements.
Finally, a beautiful mermaid tail typically doesn't come cheap — and from ordering to delivery, the wait can be quite long. So it always pays to try one first and get a feel for the style that suits you before committing to a purchase.

The Taiwan Mermaid Art Institute will be rolling out the Professional Mermaid Performance Course and Mermaid Tail Photography Direction Course, designed primarily for M1 and above students. These courses teach professional shooting techniques and communication skills for professional performances, cultivating the ability to radiate confident, beautiful mermaid energy even under the immense pressure of being in front of a camera or an audience. Well worth looking forward to.
