A trip to Okinawa is about more than soaking in its laid-back atmosphere and pristine white-sand beaches — it's also the perfect opportunity to plan an unforgettable dive trip. Excellent dive shops are scattered across Okinawa's main island and outer islands, offering the famously attentive and meticulous service Japan is known for. Some shops even provide Chinese-language service, so you can enjoy your diving holiday completely stress-free!

1. Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium Exclusive Cup-Edge Figurines

The Churaumi Aquarium's exclusive edition koppu no fuchiko (cup-edge figurines) are essentially miniature versions of the aquarium's underwater stars. Perfect for gifting or selfies, and absolutely off the charts on the cute scale. There are 7 designs in total: Whale Shark, sea turtle, Stingray, Clownfish, walrus, a secret edition giant squid, and a figurine of "Fuchiko-san" herself diving alongside a Napoleon Wrasse in a white bikini.

Each turn of the capsule machine costs ¥400. There's a bill-changer right next to it, handy if you're going for the full set — since it's all down to chance, just close your eyes and wish hard before you spin! Capsule machines are available both at the "Blue Manta" shop near the exit and at the small stall by the entrance. If you get home and find you're missing one, don't panic — the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium official store Umichurara on Kokusai-dori gives you a second chance.

2. Churaumi Marine Guide Cards

Why are these exclusive? Because you can only pick them up inside the aquarium itself — they're spread across 10 different areas throughout the building, and it's very easy to walk right past them when the fish have your full attention. Each double-sided guide card features detailed information about the aquarium's marine life. Yes, the descriptions are in Japanese, but the comprehensive data and gorgeous photos make them well worth taking home to sleep with. Once you've collected the full set, head to the "Blue Manta" shop at the exit to pick up a dedicated folder. Any true ocean lover simply has to give these cards a proper home.

3. Origami Stationery Sets

These star origami sets, which we finally tracked down at the entrance gift stall, come with five designs and five sheets of each — all for ¥324 per pack. The lineup includes sea turtle, Whale Shark, Stingray, walrus, and garden eel in two colour schemes (black-and-white polka dots and yellow-and-white stripes). Folding instructions are printed on the back — just follow the dotted lines and numbered steps, and you'll feel a real sense of accomplishment when you're done. They make a wonderful gift for kids, and each design has a dedicated space on the back for writing a message — perfect for a coworker, a close friend, or that special someone who loves the ocean just as much as you do. 4. Postcards / Stickers

The Whale Shark tank is the undisputed centrepiece of the aquarium, with all manner of fish gliding through its depths. For postcard collectors, this makes for an iconic souvenir — a reminder of just how tiny we are beneath that enormous Whale Shark, captured in the deepest blue that speaks to the soul of the ocean. Another must-have keepsake is the sticker set! Two designs are available, each featuring the aquarium's biggest stars with their Japanese names and descriptions printed on the back. 5. Pocket Mirrors

These compact pocket mirrors, priced at around ¥750 each, come in six different themes and make a wonderful gift for the women in your life.
