The "AI with Purpose Global Summit Taipei 2025," co-hosted by Taiwan Mobile, the Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI), and the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (TEEMA), concluded successfully today (the 29th). The closing highlight was the awards ceremony for the "Digital with Purpose Awards" (DWP Awards), recognizing highly impactful sustainable innovations within the global ICT industry. This year, more than 24 projects from around the world competed for the honor. The "AI Ocean Marine Data Center," a collaborative effort between Taiwan Mobile and social innovation team BlueTrend, emerged as the winner of the Biodiversity Award, demonstrating the international competitiveness of Taiwan's homegrown AI technology in the fields of ecological conservation and sustainable practice. This marks the second consecutive year Taiwan Mobile has received the prestigious international sustainability award, following the Smart City Award won by its shared charging service "MyCharge" in 2024 — underscoring the company's tangible achievements and global impact in driving sustainable transformation through digital technology.
The award's technical evaluation was conducted by the Wuppertal Institute, a leading German sustainability think tank, which selected representative projects across five categories: Biodiversity, Education, Climate, Smart Cities, and Health & Well-being. Taiwan Mobile's "AI Ocean Marine Data Center" was ultimately chosen as the Biodiversity Award winner for its integration of AI image recognition, citizen participation, and local knowledge application, as well as its potential for scalability and policy support. The judging panel highly commended the project for its concrete contribution to "realizing sustainable value through digital transformation."
Using Technology to Create Positive Impact — Taiwan Mobile Fulfills Its Core DWP Commitment
Taiwan Mobile's Vice President of Sustainability, Brand & PR, Liu Li-Hui, stated that the Digital with Purpose Award is not only a recognition of technological innovation, but also a testament to the value of enterprises driving sustainable transformation through digital power. Since 2020, Taiwan Mobile has embraced GeSI's "Digital with Purpose (DWP)" initiative and has served as Co-Chair of the DWP Development Committee since 2023, continuously taking concrete action to fulfill the commitment that "technology should create positive impact for people and the planet." The Biodiversity Award won by the "AI Ocean Marine Data Center" is the result of integrating local knowledge, AI technology, and citizen engagement — and it symbolizes Taiwan's capacity to contribute values and innovative solutions to the global conversation on the convergence of digital technology and sustainability. Going forward, Taiwan Mobile will continue to partner with domestic and international collaborators to inject new momentum into global net-zero and ecological sustainability goals.
VP Liu further noted that the ocean covers approximately 70% of the Earth's surface and is critical to maintaining global climate stability and ecosystem balance. Through the "AI Ocean Marine Data Center," Taiwan Mobile hopes to use technology to raise public awareness of ocean issues. The company is also actively engaged in the "Taiwan Mobile Blue Carbon Mangrove Restoration Project," aiming to harness the potential of marine blue carbon resources — whose carbon sequestration capacity is more than four times that of terrestrial green vegetation — delivering significant environmental benefits in terms of climate change mitigation, biodiversity enhancement, and coastal protection. By combining AI, nature restoration, and carbon governance in cross-disciplinary real-world action, Taiwan Mobile demonstrates its resolve in climate governance.
Building Taiwan's First Marine Knowledge Repository — 9,000 Citizens Join Forces with AI to Protect the Ecosystem

Taiwan Mobile's "AI Ocean Marine Data Center" integrates AI image recognition and generative AI Chatbot technology to create the first integrated marine species knowledge base in the Traditional Chinese-speaking world.
The "AI Ocean Marine Data Center" integrates AI image recognition and generative AI Chatbot technology to create the first integrated marine species knowledge base in the Traditional Chinese-speaking world. It has mobilized more than 9,000 participants to upload over 19,000 image records, helping the AI system identify more than 150 common marine species found in Taiwan, and accumulating over 500,000 characters of knowledge training data. Through the collaboration of citizen science and AI, the initiative achieves effective collection and analysis of marine data, advancing applications in marine education, tourism, and research. Funded, marketed, and supported technologically by Taiwan Mobile through its "Tech The Dreamers 科技‧夢想+" platform, the project has established a foundational database covering northern Taiwan's waters and dive sites in Palau, and has connected with local governments and dive operators to build the knowledge base for marine education, tourism, and conservation policy. The judging panel recognized it for combining local practice, cross-domain integration, and international outreach, providing substantive solutions for sustainable transformation.
Technology Safeguarding Ecological Sustainability — Driving Positive Transformation for Biodiversity
Taiwan is surrounded by ocean on all sides and blessed with rich marine biodiversity, yet has long lacked systematic data integration. The "AI Ocean Marine Data Center" fills this gap and has become a key pillar of Taiwan Mobile's efforts to protect biodiversity. As early as 2022, Taiwan Mobile formulated its "Biodiversity Protection and Zero Deforestation Declaration," partnering with value chain partners to promote harmony with nature — including the "Taiwan Mobile Giant Salamander Protection Project" integrating IoT, and the "Taiwan Mobile Blue Carbon" mangrove restoration project pioneering the world's first integrated mangrove aquaculture model and developing carbon-negative technologies. Taiwan Mobile has also led the industry by adopting the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework starting in 2023, and in 2024 published the first TNFD report in Taiwan. The company plans to achieve a biodiversity "net positive impact" and zero deforestation by 2050.
Taiwan Mobile's Engagement with DWP Since 2020 — Demonstrating International Sustainability Strength
The Digital with Purpose (DWP) initiative was launched by GeSI in 2020, calling on the global ICT industry to leverage digital technology to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement, while actively mitigating potential environmental and social impacts even as long-term business value is created. Since becoming the first corporate member in Taiwan to join GeSI in 2016, Taiwan Mobile has continuously participated in international sustainability efforts. From 2020, it embraced the DWP initiative and formally signed the DWP Declaration, was invited to serve as Co-Chair of the DWP Development Committee, and has actively participated in international decision-making and advocacy. Since 2023, it has consecutively attended the DWP Global Summit. In 2024, Taiwan Mobile attended the DWP Global Summit held in Portugal, where it led two keynote presentations and participated in one international panel discussion, sharing its practical experience and sustainability achievements with more than 4,000 ICT leaders and member representatives from around the world.
International Standards Strengthening Sustainable Governance — Recognized by Domestic and International Sustainability Rankings
Taiwan Mobile's commitment to sustainable development has earned recognition from professional institutions both at home and abroad. The company has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for eight consecutive years, ranking among the top three in the global telecommunications sector. In terms of corporate governance, it has received the honor of being in the top 5% of the Taiwan Stock Exchange's Corporate Governance Evaluation for 11 consecutive years — one of only seven companies in Taiwan to achieve this record. In the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Climate Change assessment, Taiwan Mobile received an A rating in 13 out of 16 evaluation categories, an all-time high overall performance. Taiwan Mobile also actively strengthens investor relations and ESG governance, ensuring sound business operations and the continued creation of long-term value for the market and investors through comprehensive information disclosure and clearly defined sustainability targets and implementation strategies.
